As Chairman of the Board of Governors of the G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Sport, I commend the stakeholders of this institution for contributing to the social, educational and cultural development of the nation. The College has blazed a trail of success for over 30 years in its preparation of world class Physical Education professionals by offering high standards of instruction, and a commitment to excellent leadership in the field of sports.
As we embark on the task of transforming the College into one of the premier sporting and academic institutions in the region, we have introduced innovative programmes and created partnerships in order to meet the growing demands of existing and prospective students. Programme such as the Community Inclusion Programme which, at its inception, facilitated training and certification of individuals in Food Preparation and Housekeeping, now offers a Sports and Recreation Summer Camp geared at enhancing community involvement and support. Additionally, our recent collaboration with the Catholic School of Mandeville, offering a short course certificate programme in Sports and Therapeutic Massage, is a significant example of visionary leadership.
The success of an organization lies in the leadership skills and aptitudes of its people as well as the strength of its infrastructure. As we promulgate the achievements and work of the College, the Board of Directors are cognizant of the need to ensure that the institution is fully equipped with the necessary resources to meet its objectives. We have begun the reconstructive work on the Running Track and have focused our energies on other facilities in need of repair.
As a united body, committed to embracing the vision of excellence, let us remember to build on the enviable past of being the first institution of its kind to be established in the English Speaking Caribbean.
The College is in need of resources to improve the facilities and to offer new and exciting programmes for our students. I appeal to the alumni, corporate Jamaica and public bodies to join in this major rehabilitation effort.
